The bacteria requested equal time after the last piece. We're letting them give the tour. Everything stated is accurate; the attitude is theirs.
CORY: Welcome. Mind your step. This is a working environment.
STAPH: What Cory means is: your armpit is not a wasteland. It's one of the most densely populated, stable microbial communities on your entire body. Warm, humid, sheltered, well-fed. Prime real estate.
CORY: We've been here longer than you've been employed.
Who's actually here
The armpit microbiome is dominated by two main groups. There are the Staphylococci — (Staph gestures) — present basically everywhere, generally mild-mannered, responsible for a softer, more sour note.
STAPH: I'm doing my best.
And there are the Corynebacteria — (Cory nods) — fewer in number but disproportionately responsible for the strong, pungent odor people actually complain about. Corynebacteria are the heavy hitters. They metabolize apocrine secretions into the most potent thioalcohols.
CORY: I take pride in my work.
Why the mix matters
Here's the part that's genuinely useful to you: which bacteria dominate your particular armpit shapes how you smell and how you respond to products. A microbiome heavy on Corynebacteria smells stronger and is harder to manage. A more Staph-dominant pit is milder. This is largely why two people can use the identical deodorant and get different results — different residents, different output.
STAPH: It's also why "just use more product" is not a strategy. You're not outnumbering us with reapplication. You have to change the conditions.
What actually changes the conditions
Three levers, same as always:
- Block the moisture — aluminum. Plugs the glands. We get less food. Effective, but you're plugging your glands.
- Cover the output — fragrance. We keep working; you just smell perfume for a while. We wait.
- Disrupt the process — go after the metabolic step where we turn your sweat into odor.
CORY: The third one is BioShield™. Zinc-based. Targets the exact reaction Corynebacteria are known for.
STAPH: Cory takes that personally.
CORY: I take it professionally.
So that's the tour. A stable, well-fed community with two main factions, one of which is doing most of the damage — and the only approach that meaningfully changes your situation is the one that disrupts the process at the source. MAX if you sweat a lot and feed us well. SENSITIVE if your skin reacts to everything else.
CORY: Visit anytime. You live here.
STAPH: You literally cannot leave.
