Tea Tree came first. It predates the zinc formulas, it works differently from all three of them, and we kept making it because a real share of people do better on the classic botanical route than on anything we built afterward.

It carries its own name instead of the BioShield badge because the chemistry is different.

How it works

Sweat comes out close to odorless. Bacteria on your skin break it down and release the acids you can actually smell.

Baking soda is what handles those acids here, and it's in this formula on purpose. It's the oldest tool in natural deodorant and it stayed in use because it works.

It's also the most common source of natural-deodorant rash. The reason is delivery: baking soda dissolves readily in sweat and releases essentially all of its alkalinity at once. That trade is why Tea Tree is the only one of the four that uses it.

Tea tree oil is the botanical the formula is built around, with sage leaf extract alongside it and zinc oxide as the mineral. That's the only zinc in here. Tea Tree doesn't contain the zinc chloride hydroxide that Core, Max, and Sensitive share.
